Your address and privacy

You type an address so we can show your ballot. This page says exactly where it goes.

Where your address goes

When you type, our server passes what you typed to the U.S. Census Bureau’s public geocoding services (the address lookup, and the TIGERweb place lookup for cities, counties and ZIP codes). They return a map location and the districts it falls in. Your browser never contacts the Census Bureau directly, and the request carries no cookies and no referring page.

The Census Bureau is the only outside service that receives what you type, and it is used for nothing else.

What we keep

We do not save your address, link it to you, or put it in a web address. Our servers do not log what you type or what comes back.

The address you choose is held in your browser’s session storage so the page can be reloaded. It is removed when you close the tab or choose Change address.

What the ballot page contains

Your ballot page is identified only by the set of races, never by the place, so anyone with the same races sees the same page.
